Yutaka Yamamoto (born September 1, 1974) is a Japanese anime director. He is from Osaka Prefecture and is known for directing several popular anime series and films. He also helped start the animation studio Ordet.

Early Career and Famous Works

Yutaka Yamamoto began his career at Kyoto Animation. He became well-known after working as an assistant director on Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time.

Directing The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

In 2006, Yamamoto was chosen to be the series director for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. He became very popular among anime fans for creating the dance to "Hare Hare Yukai". This was the ending song for the show.

Starting His Own Studio

Yamamoto was supposed to direct Lucky Star, but he was replaced after four episodes. He later confirmed that he was let go by Kyoto Animation. After this, he became the president of Ordet, a new animation studio.

In 2008, he directed Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens. He worked on this project with Ordet and A-1 Pictures.

Later Projects and Challenges

In 2009, Yamamoto directed a short film for a manga called Tonari no 801-chan. This short film was made by A-1 Pictures.

Directing Black Rock Shooter and Fractale

His next big project was Black Rock Shooter, an original video animation (OVA) released in 2010. Yamamoto was the supervising director for this project. It was the first time Ordet was the main animation studio for a production.

In early 2011, Yamamoto directed the anime Fractale. This show was produced by A-1 Pictures and Ordet.

Working on Wake Up, Girls!

Yamamoto directed three films and a TV series for the Wake Up, Girls! project. However, he was later removed as director for the sequel series. He was also let go from Ordet in 2016.

Crowdfunding for Hakubo

In 2017, Yamamoto announced his next project would be an original anime film called Hakubo. He decided to get money for the film through crowdfunding. Yamamoto wrote and directed the film, which was released in 2019.
