Yves Poilane, born on December 11, 1959, in Lyon, France, is a well-known French engineer and former leader in the field of telecommunications and education. He used to be the director of Télécom Paris, a famous engineering school, and later led the technology department at IONIS Education Group.

Yves Poilane's Early Career and Education

Yves Poilane studied at two important French schools: École Polytechnique (starting in 1979) and Télécom Paris. After his studies, he joined a special group of engineers called the 'Corps des télécommunications'. He quickly moved up, becoming a chief engineer in 1993 and a general engineer by 2003, when he was only 43 years old.

Working in Telecommunications

Early in his career, he worked in telecommunications, which is all about phones and internet. He held important technical jobs at the main telecommunications company in France, which later became France Télécom.

From 1984 to 1989, he managed telephone equipment in the Franche-Comté region. After that, he oversaw operations in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur area.

Leading Engineering Schools

In 1989, Yves Poilane became the deputy director of the École nationale supérieure des télécommunications de Bretagne (ENSTB). This was an important step in his career in education.

Developing Phone Networks

From 1994 to 1997, he worked on big plans to improve phone lines across France. He helped guide how phone networks would grow and change.

Managing Customer Services

In 1997, he became the director of a professional agency in Boulogne-Billancourt. Later, in 2001, he became a regional director in Picardy, focusing on how services were delivered to customers.

Innovations in Television and Internet

Because of his knowledge about how TV could be delivered through internet lines (called ADSL), he moved to Paris in 2004. There, he took charge of a special team called MaLigne TV, which later became Orange TV. This team focused on bringing television services to homes through internet connections.

Leading Télécom Paris

In 2007, he briefly managed operations in the Ile de France region. However, in the same year, he was appointed director of Télécom Paris in Paris. This was a major role where he led one of France's top engineering schools.

Role at IONIS Education Group

In December 2019, Yves Poilane left his role at Télécom Paris. He then became the head of the technology department at the IONIS Education Group. This group includes many different schools focused on technology and innovation. He retired in December 2023, and Philippe Jamet took over his position.
