The 2020 Election
Holley won the Democratic primary election on March 3, 2020. A primary election is when people from the same party choose their candidate. She got the most votes, but not quite enough to avoid a possible second election. However, the person who came in second, Terry Van Duyn, decided not to ask for a second election. This made Yvonne Holley the official Democratic candidate.
Holley talked about her "Affordable Living Initiative" (ALI) during her campaign. This plan aimed to solve important problems in communities across North Carolina. It would bring together different groups of people. These groups included public and private organizations, non-profits, and local governments.
The Affordable Living Initiative focused on several key areas:
- Affordable Housing: Helping people find homes they can afford.
- Healthy Food: Making sure everyone has access to good, healthy food.
- Jobs: Creating jobs that pay enough for people to live comfortably. This included supporting small businesses.
- Transportation: Improving ways for people to get around.
In the main election, Yvonne Holley ran against the Republican candidate, Mark Robinson. She lost the election. Mark Robinson received about 51% of the votes, and Holley received about 48%.
