Yvonne Nelson (born 12 November 1985) is a famous actress, model, and film producer from Ghana. She is also an author and a businesswoman. Yvonne was once a contestant in the Miss Ghana beauty pageant.

She has acted in many popular movies. Some of her well-known films include House of Gold (2013), Any Other Monday, and In April. She became very famous after her role in the movie "Princess Tyra". Yvonne Nelson is also very popular online, with millions of followers on Instagram.

Early Life and Education

Yvonne Nelson was born in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. Her family background includes both Fante and Ga heritage.

She started her schooling at St. Martin De Porres School in Accra. Later, she attended Aggrey Memorial Senior High School. For her college education, she studied human resource management at Zenith University College and Central University. In 2020, she earned a Master's Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Acting and Producing Career

Yvonne Nelson's acting journey began by chance. She was at an audition just to watch, but a producer asked her to try out. Even though she first said no, she later got her big break.

Her first major movie role was in "Princess Tyra" in 2007. After gaining fame as an actress, Yvonne decided to try producing movies too. In 2011, she produced her first film, "The Price." She also produced "Single and Married" in 2012 and "House of Gold" in 2013. "House of Gold" won awards for Best Picture at the Ghana Movie Awards and Best Ghanaian Movie at the 2013 City People Entertainment Awards. Many people consider Yvonne Nelson to be one of Ghana's best actresses.

In 2018, she started a TV show called Heels and Sneakers. This show is about young adults trying to find happiness. It explores the challenges they face in getting a good education, finding jobs, and getting married. The show has two seasons.

On July 31, 2024, Yvonne Nelson opened her own school, called Yvonne Nelson International School.

In 2010, Yvonne Nelson started the Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation. This foundation aims to teach people about glaucoma, an eye disease. To raise awareness, she worked with other Ghanaian celebrities. They recorded a charity song and made a video to help educate people about glaucoma.

On May 17, 2015, she joined other celebrities to protest against the energy crisis in Ghana. This was a time when there were frequent power outages. She led a peaceful protest called DumsorMustStop on May 16, 2015. The hashtag #dumsormuststop is still used on social media to talk about Ghana's energy problems.

Yvonne has often spoken about the lack of development in Ghana since it became independent in 1957. She even told the BBC that she might consider running for political office one day. She has also suggested that Ghanaians should refuse to vote in presidential elections to send a message to politicians.

On April 30, 2024, Yvonne asked the public to join her in another protest. This demonstration was against the ongoing power outages across the country. On June 8, 2024, she led a second vigil for the #dumsormuststop campaign. This was to protest the continued power cuts, even though the police tried to stop the vigil.

Awards and Recognition

Yvonne Nelson has received several awards for her work in film and her charity efforts.

  • In 2013, GoWoman Magazine and Printex honored her. This was for starting the Glaucoma Foundation and for her successful film career.
