Złoty facts for kids
The Polish złoty is the official money used in Poland. The word złoty actually means "gold" in Polish! It's how people in Poland pay for things like toys, food, and clothes.
What Are Złoty Coins?
Just like other countries have different coins, Poland has its own. The złoty coins come in a few different values:
- 1 złoty
- 2 złote
- 5 złotych
These coins are used every day by people across Poland.
History of the Złoty
The złoty has been around for a very long time, changing over the years. It has seen many important moments in Polish history. For example, during the November Uprising in 1830-1831, special 5 złoty coins were made. Later, in 1835, a 1 złoty coin was released in the city of Kraków.
Even in 1917, during a time of big changes, Poland had its own money called "Polish marks" before the złoty became the main currency again. There were also special types of money, like "złoty dewizowy," which could be used for travel, similar to a traveler's cheque.
