Zabou Breitman (born Isabelle Breitman on October 30, 1959), often known simply as Zabou, is a talented French actress and director. Her parents, Jean-Claude Deret and Céline Léger, were also actors. Zabou started her acting journey very early, appearing in her first movie when she was just four years old.
Since 1981, Zabou has taken on many roles in films, TV shows, and theater plays. She is also a successful director. Her first movie as a director was Se souvenir des belles choses in 2001. For this film, she won a César Award for Best Debut, which is a very important award in French cinema. In 2012, she took part in a popular TV show called Rendez-vous en terre inconnue, where celebrities travel to remote parts of the world.

Zabou Breitman has two children with sculptor Fabien Chalon. Her daughter, Anna Chalon, was born in 1990. Her son, Antonin, was born in 1993.

Early Roles and TV Appearances
One of her very first roles was in the TV series Thierry la Fronde in 1964, when she was a young child. Later, in 1982, she appeared in the popular movie La Boum 2. She also acted in the comedy Banzaï in 1983.

Zabou has been nominated for awards for her acting. In 1985, she was nominated for a César Award for Most Promising Actress for her role in Billy Ze Kick. She also received a nomination for César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in La Crise in 1992.
Some other films she has appeared in include My Little Business (1999), Beautiful Memories (2001), and The First Day of the Rest of Your Life (2008). In 2011, she was nominated again for a César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Minister. More recently, she acted in films like 24 Days (2014) and All Three of Us (2015).

Besides acting, Zabou Breitman is also a respected film director.
Award-Winning Directorial Debut
Her first movie as a director was Beautiful Memories in 2001. This film was a big success. It won the César Award for Best First Feature Film. It also received awards from the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics and the Étoiles d'Or for Best First Film.
Other Directed Works
Zabou has directed several other films, including The Man of My Life in 2006 and Someone I Loved in 2009. In 2010, she directed No et moi, a film where she also had an acting role. Her animated film The Swallows of Kabul, which she co-directed with Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec, was released in 2019.
