A Look Back: Zaneta's History

Zaneta was started a long time ago, in the 1800s. It got its name from a city in Ohio called Zanesville, Ohio. The people who named Zaneta liked the "Zane" part and added "ta" to make it sound nicer. This is called euphony, which means a pleasant sound.

In 1902, a Methodist church was built in Zaneta. This church actually moved there from another place called North Fork.

Over the years, Zaneta has always been a very small community.

  • In 1915, only 16 people lived there.
  • By 1925, the population dropped slightly to just 12 residents.
  • In 1940, the number of people living in Zaneta grew a little to 18 residents.
