Zanzibar Archipelago facts for kids
The Zanzibar Archipelago is a group of islands found off the coast of East Africa. It lies south of the Somali Sea. Many people also call this area the Spice Islands because of its history with spice trade.
This archipelago has four main islands. Three of these islands have people living on them. The fourth main island is made of coral and is a very important place for seabirds to lay their eggs. Around these main islands, there are also many smaller islets.
Most of the Zanzibar Archipelago belongs to Zanzibar, which is a special semi-autonomous region of Tanzania. However, Mafia Island and its small surrounding islets are part of the Pwani Region on the mainland of Tanzania.
