His Journey as an Artist
Zdeněk Mézl began his art studies at the College of Applied Arts in Prague, where he learned many skills from 1949 to 1953. After that, he continued his education at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts, Prague. This is where he really developed his unique artistic style.
He became well-known for his special way of making pictures called woodcut engraving. This is an old technique where an artist carves a design into a block of wood. Then, ink is applied to the raised parts, and the block is pressed onto paper to create a print. It's a very detailed and skillful process!
Zdeněk Mézl used this method to illustrate several books. Some of his published works include "A Battle for Cathedral" and "Hey, Slavs!". His illustrations helped bring these stories to life for readers.
