Early Life and High School Basketball
Zed Key was born on April 4, 2002. He grew up in Bay Shore, New York. He went to Brentwood High School for his first two years. Then, he moved to Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York. He played there during his junior and senior years.
High School Success
At Long Island Lutheran, Zed played alongside André Curbelo, who also became a college basketball star. Their team was one of the best high school teams in the country. In his junior year, Zed's team won the New York Class AA state championship. This is a big achievement for a high school team.
During his senior year, Zed played very well. He averaged 18 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He had amazing performances in important games. For example, he scored 25 points against Sierra Canyon High School. He also scored 37 points against The Patrick School.
Choosing a College Team
Many colleges wanted Zed to play for them. He was considered one of the top players in New York. On September 22, 2019, Zed decided to play for Ohio State. He chose Ohio State over other major teams like Florida and Illinois.
College Basketball Career
Zed Key began his college basketball journey at Ohio State. He played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2020 to 2024.
Freshman Year at Ohio State (2020–2021)
During his first year, Zed usually started games from the bench. This means he was a substitute player. He played in all 31 games for Ohio State. He averaged 5.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Zed also had 22 blocks, which means he stopped opponents from scoring. Only one other player on his team had more blocks. In a game against Cleveland State, Zed achieved a "double-double." Sophomore Year at Ohio State (2021–2022)
