Exploring Żejtun

Żejtun is a city with a rich history and beautiful sights. It's a great place to learn about Malta's past and see how people live today.

What's in a Name?

The name Żejtun comes from an Arabic word meaning "olive." This tells us that olive trees were very important here a long time ago. The city's motto, Palladis clara munera, means "The clear gifts of Pallas." Pallas is another name for the Greek goddess Athena, who was linked to olives and wisdom.

Żejtun is in the southeastern part of Malta. It shares its borders with several other towns. These include Fgura, Għaxaq, Marsaskala, Marsaxlokk, Santa Luċija, Tarxien, and Żabbar. The city is about 60 meters above sea level.

How the City is Governed

Żejtun has a local council that helps run the city. The leader of the council is called the Mayor. As of now, the Mayor is Maria Dolores Abela. She is part of the Labour Party. The council works to make Żejtun a good place to live for everyone.
