Zhao Yunlei (born August 25, 1986) is a famous badminton player from China. She played in both mixed doubles and women's doubles events. Zhao is known for being the first and only badminton player to win two gold medals at the same Olympic Games. She achieved this amazing feat in 2012, winning in both mixed and women's doubles.

Zhao Yunlei has won many important titles throughout her career. These include gold medals at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, and Asian Championships. She also helped her team win the Sudirman Cup (mixed team) and Uber Cup (women's team). Many people consider her one of the best female doubles players in badminton history. She won a total of 63 individual titles, showing her incredible skill and success. After the 2016 Olympics, Zhao retired from playing badminton professionally.

Zhao Yunlei's Badminton Career

Zhao Yunlei often played with Tian Qing in women's doubles and with Zhang Nan in mixed doubles. She became the world's number one player with her partner Cheng Shu in women's doubles in November 2009. Later, she also reached the world number one spot in mixed doubles with Zhang Nan in January 2011.

Key Wins in 2010

In 2010, Zhao and Zhang Nan won the mixed doubles title at the All England Open. This was special because they started from the qualifying rounds. Zhao also won a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games in women's doubles with Tian Qing. China's women's team, which included Zhao, also won a gold medal.

Success in 2011

Zhao and Zhang Nan had a fantastic year in 2011. They won the World Superseries Finals in January. They also won the Korea Open two weeks later. In August, Zhao and Zhang won their first mixed doubles gold medal at the 2011 BWF World Championships in London. Zhao also won a silver medal in women's doubles with Tian Qing at the same event. They continued their winning streak by taking titles at the Hong Kong Open and China Open. They finished the year by winning the World Superseries Finals again.

Olympic Glory in 2012

The London Olympics in 2012 was a huge moment for Zhao Yunlei. She made history by winning two gold medals. She won the mixed doubles with Zhang Nan and the women's doubles with Tian Qing. This made her the first badminton player to win two gold medals at a single Olympic Games.

2013 and 2014 Achievements

In 2013, at the 2013 BWF World Championships in Guangzhou, Zhao won bronze medals in both mixed doubles and women's doubles. The next year, 2014, was another golden year. At the 2014 BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, she won both the mixed doubles with Zhang Nan and the women's doubles with Tian Qing. This was her first World Championship gold in women's doubles. Zhao and Zhang also won the mixed doubles title at the 2014 Asian Games. She was named the 2014 BWF Female Player of the Year.

Defending Titles in 2015

Zhao continued her dominance in 2015. At the 2015 BWF World Championships in Jakarta, she successfully defended her titles. She won gold in both mixed doubles with Zhang Nan and women's doubles with Tian Qing. This made her the most successful player in World Championship history with ten medals. She and Zhang Nan also became the first pair to win three World Championship mixed doubles titles.

Final Olympic Medal in 2016

In April and May 2016, Zhao and Zhang Nan won the Asian Championships. In August, at the 2016 Rio Olympics, she and Zhang Nan won a bronze medal in mixed doubles. This was her third Olympic medal overall. After these Olympics, Zhao Yunlei retired from international badminton.

Coaching Career

After retiring from playing, Zhao Yunlei returned to the national team in 2018. This time, she came back as an assistant coach, sharing her knowledge and experience with new players.

Personal Life

Zhao Yunlei was in a relationship with her mixed doubles partner, Zhang Nan. However, they decided to part ways before the 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2018, Zhao married Hong Wei, who was also a former national badminton player.

Awards and Recognition

Zhao Yunlei's amazing career was recognized when she was inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame in 2022. This is a very high honor in the sport of badminton.
