History of Little Chicago

This community was first known by a different name: Ziegler. Back in 1898, about 60 people lived there. Ziegler had important businesses for the time. These included a planing mill and a saw mill, which processed wood. There was also a cheese factory, a hardware store, and a shoe store. The community even had its own Lutheran church. The United States Post Office delivered mail to Ziegler three times a week. By 1909, Ziegler had its own post office building.

The name Little Chicago came about in the early 1900s. This was during a time called the Prohibition era. During Prohibition, making or selling alcoholic drinks was not allowed by law. People say a local place in Ziegler didn't follow this rule. Because of this, the community started to be called Little Chicago.
