He was a very well-known architect! This house was the first of only two homes Wright designed in New Hampshire. Dr. Isadore Zimmerman and his wife Lucille lived here. After they passed away, they gave their home to the public. Now, the Currier Museum of Art owns it. You can visit the house by taking a tour with the museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Discovering the Zimmerman House
The Zimmerman House is found in a quiet neighborhood in northern Manchester. It is a single-story home, meaning it has only one floor. The house sits on a flat concrete base. A large, L-shaped chimney is at its center. The roof hangs out far over the walls. This design helps protect the house from the weather. The rooms are lined up in a row. There is also an open carport for cars. Inside, much of the house is made of cypress wood.
How Frank Lloyd Wright Designed It
Frank Lloyd Wright designed this house in 1950. He used his special Usonian style. This style focused on simple, affordable homes. The Zimmerman House has two bedrooms. Its design is based on a four-foot measurement. It is built with red brick and cypress wood.
John Geiger was an apprentice, or student, of Wright. He came to New Hampshire to help build the house. John made sure everything was built correctly. He also made some final changes for the Zimmermans. Wright even changed the house design to include a rock outside the front door!
Wright's Complete Vision
Wright's design for the Zimmerman House was very complete. He designed not just the house, but also the furniture inside. He even designed a special stand for music. Even the mailbox was designed by him! Wright also chose all the plants for the garden. He wanted everything to fit together perfectly.
Visiting the House Today
The Zimmermans took great care of their home. They followed Wright's plans for the house and garden. In 1988, they gave the house to the Currier Museum of Art. The museum now offers tours of the property. A shuttle takes visitors to the house. This helps keep traffic low in the neighborhood. No other way to visit the house is allowed.
