A Look Back: Zináparo's History

The name Zináparo comes from the Chichimeca people. They were an ancient group who lived in this area. The name means "obsidian place," but it can also be translated as "place of doctors." Zináparo was a settlement even before the Spanish arrived.

The Spanish government officially recognized Zináparo in 1613. By 1822, it was a community of farmers and muleteers. Muleteers were people who transported goods using mules.

In 1863, Zináparo became an official municipality. It was added to the La Piedad district. However, in 1894, it lost its status as a municipality due to a new law. But don't worry, in 1903, the government of Michoacán recognized Zináparo as a municipality once again.
