Zina Saunders was born on August 30, 1953. She is an artist, writer, and animator from New York City. She also teaches art. In 2009, she published a book called Overlooked New York. It is a collection of stories and pictures about different people in New York.

About Zina Saunders

Zina Saunders grew up in New York City. Her father, Norman Saunders, was also an illustrator. An illustrator is an artist who creates pictures for books, magazines, and other things. Zina learned a lot about painting and art from her father.

She went to the High School of Music and Art. She also studied at Cooper Union. Zina has created illustrations for many different publishers. These include Simon & Schuster and Scholastic Books. Her artwork has also appeared in magazines. Some of these are The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times Sunday Book Review.

Her Book: Overlooked New York

In 2009, Zina Saunders released her book, Overlooked New York. This book shares stories and pictures of many interesting people in New York City. She met people who had unique hobbies and interests.

Animated Work

Starting in 2010, Zina Saunders began creating weekly animated videos for Mother Jones magazine. She even does all the voices for the characters in her animations!

Awards and Recognition

Zina Saunders has received several awards for her artwork.

Character Design Awards

She redesigned the famous Pink Panther character for United Artists. This new design earned her an award from Print magazine. She also created a set of 106 illustrations for "Native Americans" trading cards. This set was named the "Most Creative Trading Card Set" by Non-Sport Update magazine.

Art Features and Teaching

Parts of her series called "Art Talks" have been shown in Illo magazine. This series includes portraits and interviews with other illustrators and art directors. Her portraits have also been featured in important art books. For example, five of her portraits were chosen for the Communication Arts Illustration Annual 2008.

Her sketches and how they become digital paintings are shown in the book Graphic: Inside the Sketchbooks of the World's Great Graphic Designers. This book was written by Steven Heller and Lita Talarico.

Zina Saunders has also shared her knowledge by teaching. She taught illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
