Zion is a small, unincorporated community located in the southern part of Madison County, Missouri, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

You can find Zion along U.S. Route 67, which is a major highway. It's about ten miles south of a larger town called Fredericktown. The community is also located right next to Twelve Mile Creek, a local waterway.

History of Zion

Zion has a history that goes back many years.

The Post Office

For a long time, Zion had its own post office. This post office served the community from 1880 until 1964. Having a post office was important because it helped people send and receive mail, connecting them to the outside world.

How Zion Got Its Name

The community of Zion was named after a church nearby that also carried the name Zion. This church, in turn, got its name from Mount Zion, a famous and important place located in West Asia. This shows how places can be named after other significant locations or buildings.
