How Zoarville Got Its Name
The area that is now Zoarville was first officially mapped out, or platted, in 1882. When it was first platted, it was called Valley City. It was also sometimes known as Zoarville Station, likely because of a train station nearby.
A post office, which is where mail is handled, was first set up in 1861. This post office was called Zoar Station. Later, in 1914, the name of the post office was officially changed to Zoarville. The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed down in 1983.
