Rana Mungin was born on September 23, 1989. She grew up in the East New York area of Brooklyn. Rana went to Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities. After high school, she studied at Wellesley College. Later, she earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing in 2015. She got this degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Her Writing Journey

Rana Mungin's stories appeared in several literary magazines. These included Quarterly West, the Black Youth Project, and Route Nine. In 2013, she won an award for her fiction writing. It was the AWP Intro Journals prize.

Rana was also interviewed about her experiences. She spoke to Wellesley Underground and the Los Angeles Review of Books. In these interviews, she shared what it was like to be a Black woman writer in a writing program where most students were white. She once wrote about an unfair incident she experienced.
