Zulfiqer Russell (Bengali: জুলফিকার রাসেল; born 13 November 1977) is a famous Bangladeshi lyricist and journalist. A lyricist is someone who writes the words for songs. He is currently the editor of an online news website called The Bangla Tribune.
Zulfiqer Russell has won many awards for his amazing song lyrics. He received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Lyrics in 2018 for the film Putro. He also won the Channel i Music Awards several times, in 2008, 2010, 2013, and 2022. In 2017, he won the Mirchi Music Awards (Bangla) for "Song of the Year" for his song "Shabuj Chilo". In 2020, he was honored with the CJFB Performance Award as the best lyricist.
He has even worked with very famous Indian singers and music makers, including A. R. Rahman, who has won both Grammy and Oscar awards! Zulfiqer Russell wrote the official theme song for the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh Independence, called 'Ektai Achhe Desh'. Fifty well-known singers from Bangladesh sang this song.

Early Life and School
Zulfiqer Russell was born on 13 November 1977, in the Dhaka District of Bangladesh. His father's name is Abdus Salam and his mother's name is Saleha Begum. He went to school at Muslim Modern Academy. Later, he graduated from Dhaka City College.
His Career as a Writer
Zulfiqer Russell started his writing journey in 1993. His poems were published in different newspapers, like Ajker Kagoj. His very first poem was called "Kofine Ojoggo Purush". He is the only lyricist in Bangladesh who has received a special letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.
He wrote the official welcome song for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. This song, called "O Prithibi Ebar Ese Bangladesh Nao Chine", was played when the big cricket event happened in Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. Since 1994, he has written about a thousand songs! Many famous artists have sung his lyrics. He was one of the top lyricists in 2011.
Working as a Journalist
Besides writing songs, Zulfiqer Russell is also a journalist. He is currently the editor of Bangla Tribune. Before this, he wrote for other newspapers like The Daily Ittefaq and The Daily Janakantha. He also worked for Maasranga Television and other Bengali newspapers.
Collaborations with Famous Musicians
Zulfiqer Russell has worked with many talented artists from Bangladesh. He is also the first Bangladeshi lyricist to work with the world-famous musician A. R. Rahman. He has also written songs for other well-known Indian singers like Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, Javed Ali, Palak Muchhal, and Nachiketa.
He wrote a special song in Hindi called 'Joy Bangabandhu' for the celebration of the hundred-year anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is known as the Father of the Nation. A. R. Rahman composed and sang this song. Zulfiqer Russell also wrote another theme song, 'Hoyeche ki Sonar Bangla', for the same celebration.
He is also involved in groups that help lyricists. For example, he is an Organizing Secretary in the Lyricists Association of Bangladesh. Through this group, they work to make sure that copyright laws protect song lyrics better.
Film Work
Zulfiqer Russell has also worked on films. He was involved in the movie Akash Koto Durey in 2013. The director of this film was Samia Zaman.
