About Ángel R. Cabada
Ángel R. Cabada is a town in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It acts as the main administrative center for the surrounding area, known as the municipality of Ángel R. Cabada. The town is located in the Papaloapan River region, which is known for its natural beauty.
Naming the Town
The town is named after Ángel Rosario Cabada (1872-1921). He was an important leader who worked to help farmers get land. Before it was named Ángel R. Cabada, the town was called El Mesón.
Ancient History of El Mesón
El Mesón was once a small but important place for the Olmec or Epi-Olmec culture. This was a very old civilization that lived in the area a long, long time ago, between 400 BCE and 100 CE.
The El Mesón Stela
In the 1950s, local farmers made an exciting discovery. They found a large stone monument called the El Mesón Stela. This stela is an important piece of history that tells us more about the ancient people who lived there. Another famous Olmec site, Tres Zapotes, is only about 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) south of El Mesón.
