Öland County (in Swedish, Ölands län) was a special area, like a region, on the Swedish island of Öland. This island is located in the Baltic Sea. The main town and official center of Öland County was Borgholm.
This county was created in 1819. However, it didn't last very long. In 1826, Öland County was joined back with another area called Kalmar County. So, it existed for only seven years.
Who Led Öland County?
A county in Sweden is led by a person called a Governor. The Governor is in charge of managing the county and making sure things run smoothly. Öland County had two Governors during its short history:
- Axel Adlersparre was the first Governor. He served from 1819 to 1821.
- Erik Gustaf Lindencrona was the second and last Governor. He led the county from 1821 until it was reunited with Kalmar County in 1826.
