Álex Mumbrú Murcia, born on June 12, 1979, is a well-known Spanish basketball coach and former player. He used to play as a small forward or power forward. He was quite tall, standing at 2.02 meters (6 feet 7.5 inches). Today, he is the head coach for the German men's national basketball team.

Álex Mumbrú: A Basketball Journey
Álex Mumbrú started his basketball career in 1997. He played for Sant Josep Badalona, a team linked to Joventut Badalona. He also played some games for Joventut's main team in the Liga ACB, which is Spain's top basketball league.
Playing for Top Teams
Mumbrú then moved to Real Madrid before the 2002–03 season. After two years, he returned to Joventut Badalona in 2004. With Joventut, he helped the team win the FIBA EuroCup in 2006.
He rejoined Real Madrid in 2006 and won the ULEB Cup and the Spanish League title in 2007. In 2009, he joined Bilbao Basket. He played there for nine years until he retired from playing basketball in 2018. Bilbao Basket honored him by retiring his number 15 jersey on April 13, 2022. This happened in a game against his former club, Real Madrid, which Bilbao won!
Becoming a Coach
After he stopped playing, Álex Mumbrú became a coach. In 2018, he started coaching Bilbao Basket, the same team he played for. He coached them until 2022.
On June 14, 2022, he signed a three-year contract to be the head coach for Valencia in the Spanish Liga ACB. He coached Valencia until April 5, 2024. Now, he is the head coach for the German national team.
Representing Spain
Álex Mumbrú was also a very important player for the Spanish national team. He helped Spain win many medals in big international tournaments:
- Gold Medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan.
- Silver Medal at the EuroBasket 2007 in Spain.
- Silver Medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
- Gold Medal at the EuroBasket 2009 in Poland.
- Bronze Medal at the EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia.
He also won gold and bronze medals at the Mediterranean Games. Mumbrú briefly retired from the national team before the EuroBasket 2011, but he returned to play for Spain in the EuroBasket 2013.
