Íñigo Fernández de Velasco, 4th Duke of Frías, born around 1520, was an important Spanish nobleman. He held the title of Grandee of Spain, which meant he was one of the highest-ranking nobles in the country. He was also the Constable of Castile, a very important military and political role. Early Life and Family

Íñigo Fernández de Velasco was the son of Juan Sancho de Tovar, 1st Marquis of Berlanga. His mother was María Girón. She was known as the Lady of Gandul and Marchenilla.

His original name was Íñigo de Tovar y Velasco. He later changed his name to Íñigo Fernández de Velasco. He did this when he inherited the title of Duke of Frías. This title came from his uncle, Pedro Fernández de Velasco, 3rd Duke of Frías. His uncle did not have any children, so Íñigo inherited the dukedom.

Marriage and Children

Íñigo Fernández de Velasco married Ana Pérez de Guzmán y Aragón. She was the daughter of Juan Alfonso Pérez de Guzmán, 6th Duke of Medina Sidonia.

Together, Íñigo and Ana had eleven children. One of their children was Juan Fernández de Velasco, 5th Duke of Frías. He later inherited his father's important titles.

Important Titles

Íñigo Fernández de Velasco held several important titles during his life. He became the Duke of Frías in 1559. He also held the title of Marquis of Berlanga starting in 1540. Another title he had was Count of Castilnovo, also from 1540. From 1559 until his death in 1585, he was the Constable of Castile. This was a very powerful position in the kingdom.
