How These Meatballs Started
A long time ago, in 1892, a man named Mustafa Efendi moved to İnegöl. He was born in a place called Pazarcık. In 1893, he started selling his special meatballs. He had a small shop at a market along the Ankara-Bursa road.
His meatballs quickly became very popular. People loved them! His family's shop is still open today, selling the same delicious meatballs.
Making İnegöl Meatballs
İnegöl meatballs are shaped into small, round balls. Sometimes they are made flat too. They are cooked on a grill until they are ready to eat.
What makes them special is that they don't use many spices. The main ingredients are veal and lamb meat, salt, a little baking soda, and onion. These ingredients are mixed together in just the right amounts.
After the meatballs are mixed and shaped, they are put in the fridge. They chill for about two to three hours. Then, they are ready to be grilled and enjoyed!
The fame of İnegöl meatballs grew quickly. By the 1930s, people all over Turkey knew about them.
