100 Pine Center is a tall, modern office building located in the Financial District of San Francisco, California. It stands at the corner of Pine Street and Front Street. This building is about 145 meters (476 feet) tall and has 33 floors. Inside, there's a lot of space for offices, covering about 402,500 square feet. It also has a garage for 150 cars.
The building was finished in 1972. It was first built to be the main office for the Continental Insurance Company. When it was completed, 100 Pine Center was one of the first modern skyscrapers in San Francisco.
Building History
Over the years, the building changed owners several times. By the late 1990s, it started to look a bit old and needed some updates.
In 1997, a company called Walton Capital bought the building. They spent a lot of money to make it new and modern again. They also found that the building had more office space than previously thought. After these improvements, they were able to rent out the offices for higher prices.
Later, in 2000, investors led by Unico Properties bought the building. Then, in 2005, the Alaska Permanent Fund became the main owner, though Unico Properties still owned a small part. The most recent change happened in 2017 when the Rockpoint Group bought 100 Pine Center.
Who Works Here?
Many different companies have offices in 100 Pine Center. One of the main companies that has offices there is the New York Life Insurance Company.
The building is also home to the Consulate-General of Ireland. A consulate is like a smaller embassy that helps people from Ireland who are visiting or living in San Francisco.
Green Building Status
In 2008, 100 Pine Center received a special certification. It was recognized as a "green building" because it is operated and maintained in a way that is good for the environment. This means it uses energy and resources wisely, following standards set by the US Green Building Council.
