What is a Millennium?
A millennium is a period of one thousand years. We are currently in the third millennium. This started on January 1, 2001. The tenth millennium is still very far away. It is more than 7,000 years from now. It's hard to imagine what life will be like then.
Our Sun's Distant Future
When we talk about the year 10,000, we are looking very far ahead. Scientists study how stars like our Sun change over time. Billions of years from now, our Sun will become a "red giant." This means it will grow much bigger and cooler. It will expand so much that it might even swallow planets like Mercury and Venus.
What Happens to Earth?
When the Sun becomes a red giant, Earth will get very hot. It might become too hot for life as we know it. This event is still billions of years away. It will happen long after the tenth millennium. But it's an interesting thought when we imagine the very distant future of our solar system.
