The year 146 BCE was a very important year a long time ago. It was part of the ancient Roman calendar. People at that time sometimes called it the Year of the Consulship of Lentulus and Achaicus. This was because those two men were the main leaders, or consuls, that year.

The End of the Punic Wars
In 146 BCE, a very long and important war finally ended. This war was called the Third Punic War. It was fought between the powerful Roman Republic and its old enemy, the city of Carthage.
The Battle of Carthage
The Roman army, led by a famous general named Scipio Aemilianus, fought a big battle at Carthage. The Romans won this battle. After their victory, the Roman Senate, which was like the Roman government, gave a very strict order. They commanded that the city of Carthage be completely destroyed.
Carthage is Destroyed
The Roman soldiers followed the order. They tore down buildings and made sure the city could not rise again. This sad event marked the final end of Carthage as a major power. It also meant the end of the Punic Wars, which had lasted for many years. Rome was now the strongest power in the Mediterranean region.
