The 1906 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the sixth time this big tennis event took place. Today, we know it as the Davis Cup. The team from the British Isles were the champions from the year before. This meant they got to host the competition.

For the first time ever, the matches were not all played in the same place. Some early matches were held in Newport, Wales. These took place from June 7th to 9th. The final match was played in Wimbledon, England. This exciting final happened from June 15th to 18th. The British Isles team won again, keeping the Cup for their fourth time!

What is the Davis Cup?

The Davis Cup is like the World Cup for men's tennis. Teams from different countries play against each other. It's a very old and famous tennis competition. The winner gets to hold the special Davis Cup trophy.

How the Tournament Worked

In 1906, three teams competed to challenge the British Isles. These teams were Australasia, Austria, and the United States. France was also supposed to play but did not show up.

The teams played matches to see who would get to challenge the champions. This part of the tournament is called the "draw."
