The 1950 College World Series was a big baseball tournament. It was the fourth time the NCAA held this event. The tournament decided which college baseball team was the best in the country.
It took place at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. The games were played from June 15 to June 23. This was the very first time the College World Series was held at this stadium. It stayed there for many years, until 2010.
The team that won the championship was the Texas Longhorns. Their coach was Bibb Falk. This was the second year in a row that the Texas Longhorns won the title. A player named Ray VanCleef from Rutgers was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
Back then, teams were chosen directly for the College World Series. There were no smaller playoff rounds before it. From 1947 to 1949, teams were picked by a special committee or were champions of their conferences. Today, teams play in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament first. This helps decide the eight teams that get to play in the College World Series.
