Belize City Council Election (1993)

• On March 18, 1993, the city of Belize City held its council election.
• The People’s United Party (PUP) was the party in charge at the time.
• The PUP won all nine seats on the city council. This was their second win in a row for Belize City.
• Because of this big win, the PUP felt confident. They decided to call a national General election for June 1, 1993.
• However, the PUP lost this national election. The United Democratic Party (UDP) and the National Alliance for Belizean Rights (NABR) formed a team, called a Coalition, and won.

National Town Board Elections (1994)

• In March 1994, elections were held for town boards across the country.
• The United Democratic Party (UDP) was now the ruling party after winning the 1993 national election.
• The UDP won most of the seats in towns all over Belize. This was their biggest win in local elections up to that time.
• However, even with their national success, the UDP did not win the Belize City Council in 1994.
• The UDP's strong performance in 1994 was later topped by their own results in the 2006 municipal elections.
