2000 Halifax Regional Municipality municipal election facts for kids
The 2000 local elections in the Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia, Canada, happened on October 21, 2000. These elections are held every four years to choose the leaders for the city. The Halifax Regional Municipality was formed in 1996 when the cities of Halifax and Dartmouth, the town of Bedford, and Halifax County all joined together.
The leaders chosen in these elections are the mayor and twenty-three councillors. They all work together on the regional council to make decisions for the community. In Nova Scotia, people running for local elections don't belong to political parties. This means they all run as independent candidates.
