On Sunday, 18 February 2007, people in Andalusia had a special vote called a referendum. A referendum is when citizens vote directly on a new law or an important decision. This vote was about changing the rules for how Andalusia is run. These rules are written in something called the Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia.

Before the vote, the new rules were checked by Spain's main law-making body, the Cortes Generales. This group is like a parliament with two parts: the Congress of Deputies and the Spanish Senate. Both parts approved the new rules with almost everyone agreeing. In the Congress, 306 people said yes, and no one said no. In the Senate, 242 people said yes, and no one said no.

The question people voted on was: "Do you approve of the Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia Bill?" (in Spanish: Spanish: ¿Aprueba el proyecto de Estatuto de Autonomía para Andalucía?). Most people who voted said yes. About 90.2% of the votes were in favor. However, only about 35.9% of all eligible voters took part in the referendum. Because the "yes" votes won, the new Statute of Autonomy was approved. It officially replaced the older rules from 1981. The new rules became law on 19 March 2007.
