The 2017 American Ultimate Disc League season was the sixth year for this exciting ultimate frisbee league! It was a big year because the San Francisco FlameThrowers won their very first championship title.
In 2017, the league had twenty-four teams. These teams were split into four groups called divisions. For the first time ever, teams played games against teams from other divisions, not just their own. This made the season even more interesting! Also, a TV channel called Eleven Sports Network started showing some of the games, bringing ultimate frisbee to more fans.

Regular Season: Games Across the Country
The regular season is when all the teams play many games to see who is the best.
Cross Coast Challenge: New Games!
For the first time in the AUDL, teams played games against teams from different divisions. This was called the Cross Coast Challenge. Only the top two teams from each division from the year before (2016) got to play in these special games. These games counted towards their regular season scores.
Here are the results of these exciting cross-division matches:
- The Raleigh Flyers beat the DC Breeze 23-21 in overtime.
- The Seattle Cascades won against the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds 26-24.
- The Dallas Roughnecks defeated the Madison Radicals 23-17.
- The Toronto Rush beat the San Francisco FlameThrowers 33-27.
Team Standings: Who Was on Top?
After all the regular season games, teams were ranked in their divisions based on how many games they won and lost. The best teams moved on to the playoffs.
- East Division: The Toronto Rush finished first. The DC Breeze and Montreal Royal also made it to the playoffs.
- Midwest Division: The Madison Radicals were the top team. The Minnesota Wind Chill and Pittsburgh Thunderbirds also qualified for the playoffs.
- West Division: The San Jose Spiders led their division. The San Francisco FlameThrowers and Los Angeles Aviators joined them in the playoffs.
- South Division: The Dallas Roughnecks were number one. The Raleigh Flyers and Jacksonville Cannons also made it to the playoffs.
Postseason: The Road to the Championship
The postseason is where the best teams compete in knockout games to find the champion.
Championship Weekend was held on August 26 and 27 in Montreal, Canada. The city was chosen because of how much the fans supported their local team, the Montreal Royal.
The four teams that made it to the semifinals were the Dallas Roughnecks, Toronto Rush, Madison Radicals, and San Francisco FlameThrowers.
