The 2017 World Snooker Championship was a major professional snooker tournament. It took place from April 15 to May 1, 2017. The event was held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. This was the 41st time the World Snooker Championship was played at the Crucible. It was also the last big event of the 2016–17 snooker season.
The champion was Mark Selby, who had also won the year before. He beat John Higgins 18–15 in the final match. Selby made an amazing comeback, as he was once behind 4–10. This was Mark Selby's third World Championship title. He had also won in 2014 and 2016.
The total money given out for prizes was £1,750,000. The winner, Mark Selby, received the top prize of £375,000. Players made 74 "century breaks" during the main part of the championship. A century break is when a player scores 100 points or more in one turn. Ronnie O'Sullivan made the highest break of the tournament, scoring 146 points. This happened in his quarter-final match.

Path to the Final
Mark Selby (the number 1 ranked player) had a tough journey to the final. He played against Ding Junhui (ranked 4th) in the semi-finals. Selby won that match 17–15 in a very close contest.
John Higgins (ranked 6th) also had a strong tournament. He defeated Barry Hawkins (ranked 7th) 17–8 in his semi-final match. This win sent Higgins to his sixth World Championship final.
Highest Breaks
A "century break" is a score of 100 points or more in one turn. There were 74 century breaks made by 23 different players in the main part of the tournament. The highest score in a single turn was 146 points. This was made by Ronnie O'Sullivan of England.
Another amazing score was a "maximum break" of 147 points. This happened during the qualifying rounds, before the main tournament began. Gary Wilson made this perfect score in his first-round qualifying match.
