The election results

The 2018 Malaysian general election (formally the 14th Malaysian general election) was held on 9 May 2018 to elect members to the Dewan Rakyat of the 14th Parliament of Malaysia and therefore a new Prime Minister of Malaysia. All 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat and 505 seats in 12 out of the 13 State Legislative Assemblies of Malaysia were up for election.

Malaysia's main opposition, Pakatan Harapan, led by Mahathir Mohamad, along with the Sabah Heritage Party, won 121 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, allowing them to form a majority government. Mahathir became the next Prime Minister. Mahathir was sworn in on May 10, a day after the election. Barisan Nasional, led by former Prime Minister Najib Razak, won 79 seats, becoming the Opposition after 61 years of holding the majority.
