What is the Memorial Cup?
The Memorial Cup is one of the oldest and most important trophies in junior ice hockey. It is awarded every year to the champion team of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). The CHL is made up of three major junior hockey leagues across Canada. These leagues are the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), and the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Why is it called the Memorial Cup?
The trophy was first given out in 1919. It was created to honor the Canadian soldiers who died during World War I. Later, it also honored those who died in other wars. It is a way to remember their bravery and sacrifice.
How the Tournament Works
