England
The England team, also known as the Lionesses, was ranked 3rd in the world before the tournament. This was their fifth time playing in the FIFA Women's World Cup. In the last World Cup in 2015, they finished in third place, which was their best result ever! They qualified for this World Cup by winning their group in Europe.
Scotland
The Scotland team was ranked 20th in the world. This was a very special World Cup for them because it was their first time ever playing in the tournament! They also qualified by winning their group in Europe.
Argentina
The Argentina team was ranked 37th in the world. This was their third time playing in the FIFA Women's World Cup. In their previous appearances in 2003 and 2007, they didn't make it past the group stage. They earned their spot in this World Cup through a special play-off game.
Japan
The Japan team, often called Nadeshiko Japan, was ranked 7th in the world. They have a great history in the World Cup, having played in it eight times. They were even the champions in 2011 and came in second place in 2015! They qualified for this World Cup by winning the AFC Women's Asian Cup.
