500 Boylston Street is a very large building in the Back Bay area of Boston, Massachusetts. It has a unique postmodern design and was finished in 1989. The building is part of Boston's "High Spine," which means it's one of the city's taller buildings. It stands right next to the famous Trinity Church.
This huge building takes up a big part of the city block. It's located between Boylston, Clarendon, and Berkeley streets, and St. James Avenue. The building was designed by John Burgee Architects, with Philip Johnson as a design consultant. It cost about $100 million to build.
The first six floors of 500 Boylston Street have shops and smaller offices. Above these, there's a 19-story tower with high-quality office spaces. In total, the building has about 715,000 square feet of office space. There's also a large underground parking lot for 1,000 cars, which it shares with a nearby building called 222 Berkeley Street.
Building Design
The outside of 500 Boylston Street is covered in beautiful rose granite stone. It has tall, two-story windows and a special copper roof that looks like a series of arches. The building also has strong columns on its exterior, which add to its unique look.
The main entrance to the building is through a courtyard. This courtyard is framed by two matching sections of the building, each with soaring columns. This design makes the building look grand and impressive.

500 Boylston Street has won several awards for being a great building and for its energy efficiency:

On Television
You might have seen 500 Boylston Street on TV! It was featured in the television show Boston Legal. In the show, the fictional law firm Crane, Poole & Schmidt had their Boston office on the 14th, 15th, and a made-up 28th floor of this building. In real life, the building only has 25 floors, and there are no balconies on those floors like in the show.
