811 Main is a very tall building in Downtown Houston, Texas. It used to be called BG Group Place and MainPlace. This amazing skyscraper is about 630 feet (192 meters) high.

The building was finished in February 2011 and has 46 floors. It is special because it has a high rating for being environmentally friendly. This rating is called LEED Platinum Certified. When it was built, 811 Main became the 15th tallest building in Houston. It was also the tallest building built in Houston in 23 years!

One cool feature is a skygarden on the 39th floor. The building got its first name, BG Group Place, when a company called BG Group Plc rented a lot of space there.

Cool Green Features of 811 Main

This building has many features that help the environment. These features make it a very "green" building.

Skygarden and Rooftop Garden

  • There is a special skygarden on the 39th floor.
  • The top floor of the parking garage also has a garden. This garden helps to soak up rainwater.
  • Water from the building's air-conditioning system is collected. This collected water is then used to water all the plants. This saves a lot of fresh water!

Saving Energy with Smart Design

  • The building has special glass fins on the outside. These fins act like sunshades. They help to keep the building cooler, so less air-conditioning is needed.
  • The ceilings inside are 10 feet high. This is a foot taller than most modern buildings. Taller ceilings let in more natural sunlight. This means less electricity is needed for lights during the day.

What's Inside: Floors and Spaces

Each floor in 811 Main is quite large, about 27,000 square feet. This size allows for many offices on each level.

Parking and Tunnel Access

  • Basement Floor 2: This floor is used for parking cars.
  • Basement Floor 1: More parking is here. You can also get to Houston's special underground tunnel system from this floor. There's even a small area for shops.
  • 1st Floor: This is the main lobby area. It has space for a large and a small shop. There's also parking here, both reserved and unreserved. You can reach the Downtown Houston tunnel system from here using an escalator. The ceilings on this floor are very tall, about 30 feet high! They even extend up through the second and part of the third floor.

Office Floors and Special Areas

  • Floors 2-10: These floors are all for parking.
  • Floor 11: This floor has a garden on the garage rooftop. It also has premium office space.
  • Floors 12-20: These are the "low rise" office spaces.
  • Floor 21: This floor helps people move between the low and mid-rise sections.
