The eighth millennium is a very long period of time that will begin on January 1, 7001, and end on December 31, 8000. A millennium is a span of 1,000 years. This millennium is so far in the future that it's hard to predict exactly what will happen. Most of what we can talk about for this time period involves big changes to our planet and the solar system, based on science.

What is a Millennium?
A millennium is simply a period of 1,000 years. We are currently living in the third millennium. The eighth millennium is still many thousands of years away. Thinking about such distant times helps us understand how the Earth and the universe change over very long periods.
Life in the Distant Future
It's impossible to know what life will be like in the eighth millennium. Human civilization might have changed in ways we can't imagine. People might live on other planets, or technology could be incredibly advanced. We can only guess based on current trends and scientific understanding.
Earth's Future Climate
By the eighth millennium, Earth's climate will have changed a lot. Scientists predict that the planet will likely be much warmer than it is today. This is due to long-term natural cycles and the continued effects of human activities on the environment. Sea levels could be much higher, changing coastlines around the world.
The Sun's Evolution
Our Sun, like all stars, changes over billions of years. In the very distant future, long after the eighth millennium, the Sun will grow much larger and become a "red giant." When this happens, it will expand so much that it will likely swallow Mercury and Venus. Earth might become too hot for life or even be absorbed by the Sun. However, this event is still billions of years away, far beyond the eighth millennium. The image below shows what Earth might look like when the Sun becomes a red giant.
