The 9/11 Commission was a special group set up in the United States. Its official name was the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States. This group was created on November 27, 2002. Its main job was to find out everything about the September 11 attacks. It also gave ideas on how the country could stay safe from future attacks.

Who Was on the 9/11 Commission?
The commission had ten members. Five members were from the Democratic Party. The other five were from the Republican Party. Thomas Kean, a former Governor of New Jersey, was the leader of the commission. He was called the Chairman.
How the Commission Was Started
The idea for the commission came from the United States Congress. Congress passed a special law to create it. Then, President George W. Bush signed this law. This made the commission official.
The Final Report and When It Ended
The 9/11 Commission worked hard to gather information. They wrote a very important book called the final report. After they published this report, the commission finished its work. It officially closed on August 21, 2004. The commission's website was also closed, but its information has been saved for people to look at later.
