Aída León de Rodríguez, whose full name is Aída Judith León Lara, was born on June 23, 1928. She became the First Lady of Ecuador because her husband, Guillermo Rodríguez, was the country's president.
About Aída León
Aída Judith León Lara was born in Pujilí, a town in Cotopaxi Province, Ecuador. Her parents were José Gabriel León Jácome and Matilde Victoria Lara Rubio. In 1953, she married General Guillermo Rodríguez. Together, they had five children.
Her Role as First Lady
As the First Lady of Ecuador, Aída León de Rodríguez led the National Children's Trust. This organization is now known as the INNFA. It was created in 1960 by Corina del Parral, another former First Lady.
Aída León worked hard to make the Children's Trust an official organization. She made sure it had a legal standing. She also created a full list of all the things the organization owned. The government's financial watchdog, the Comptroller General, supported her efforts.
Helping Others
In early 1973, a big flood happened in Babahoyo, Ecuador. Aída León took charge of helping the people affected. She helped with evacuating victims and making sure they received medical care. During this time, she became very sick with an infection. She needed to travel to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington D.C. for treatment.
