ASD AVC Vogherese 1919 facts for kids
Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica AVC Vogherese 1919, often called Vogherese or Voghera, is an Italian football club. It is based in the town of Voghera, which is in the Lombardy region of Italy. The team plays its home games at the Stadio Comunale Giovanni Parisi. This stadium can hold up to 4,000 fans. The club's main colors are red and black. Because of these colors, their nickname is "Rossoneri," which means "the red and blacks."
How the Club Started
The club, originally named Associazione Vogherese Calcio, began on November 26, 1919. It was founded at a place called Trattoria Pistone.
In the early years, Vogherese played many championships. In 1930, they almost made it to Serie B, which is a higher league. They lost a special play-off game by a very close score.
A few years later, in 1932, the Italy national football team even played a friendly game in Voghera. Italy won that match.
Between the late 1930s and 1942, the club was known as V.I.S.A. Voghera. After that, it went back to being A.V.C. Vogherese.
The years between 1945 and 1948 were a great time for the club. They played three seasons in a row in Serie B. However, in the 1950s, they moved down to Serie C. By 1959, the club faced big money problems and had to stop playing.
Starting Over
Even though the original club stopped, people wanted to keep football alive in Voghera. So, a group called Associazione Ragazzi Cairoli, which started in 1948, took over. They continued the football tradition.
It took a long time, but in 1994, this new group was able to use the old name, A.C. Voghera, again. They played in amateur leagues in Lombardy. Eventually, they made it back to Serie D.
At the end of the 1980–81 season, the team moved up to Serie C2. They stayed in this league until the 1987–88 season.
After being moved down to Serie D, the team kept playing between Serie D and Serie C2. They were moved down from C2 again after the 1998–99 season.
In the 2010–11 season, Voghera did very well. They reached the play-offs for promotion to Serie D. They won their group stage games but were stopped in the semi-finals by Rimini.
New Starts and Challenges
In the summer of 2013, the club had more financial difficulties. They could not join the 2013–14 Serie D season. This meant the club had to close down again.
The first attempt to restart happened in 2015. Three local football clubs in Voghera joined together. These were Nord Voghera, Torrevillese, and Orione. They formed a new club called Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Voghera. This new team started in the Prima Categoria league in 2015-2016. They were promoted to Promozione in 2017–2018. But just one year later, this club also ran into problems. They had to stop playing in the winter of 2018.
After a few months, a businessman named Oreste Cavaliere stepped in. He took over another club from Voghera called A.S.D. OltrepòVoghera. This club was playing in the Eccellenza league. Mr. Cavaliere changed its name to Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica AVC Vogherese 1919. This allowed the "rossoneri" history to continue once more.
