Club History
Early Years (1928-1948)
The club began in 1928 as U.S. Tranese. In 1938, it was refounded as S.S. Trani. Then, in 1948, its name changed to Polisportiva Trani.
The Polisportiva Trani Era
Playing in Serie B
Polisportiva Trani had a big moment on May 24, 1964. They were promoted to Serie B, which is a very important football league in Italy. This happened after a 1–1 draw with Chieti. This was on the last day of the Serie C 1963–1964 season.
During their time in Serie B, they won some memorable games. They beat famous teams like Parma, Naples, and Palermo. They also had a 1–0 win against their local rivals, Bari, in 1964–65. However, in the next year, Polisportiva Trani finished 20th. This meant they moved back down to Serie C.
Challenges and Changes
In the 1987–88 season, the team won their group in the Campionato Interregionale. This win helped them get promoted to Serie C2. They also won a special trophy that year, showing they were the best among the amateur teams.
Polisportiva Trani played in Serie C2 for eight years. In 1991–92, they almost got promoted to Serie C1. But they missed out to Campania-Puteolana. After this, the team found it hard to keep up their success. In 1995–96, they finished last and were moved down a league. The next year, they were moved down again. By the 1997–98 season, Polisportiva Trani did not sign up for the Eccellenza Apulia championship. This meant the club stopped playing.
The Fortis Trani Years
A New Start
Two years later, in 1999, a new club was started. It was called Fortis Trani. A group of nine business people helped make this happen. To avoid starting from a very low league, they bought the rights of another team. This team was called Libertas Barletta and played in Promozione Apulia.
The new club wanted to bring Trani back to higher leagues. After two promotions and two seasons in Serie D, the team was moved back down to Promozione. They returned to Eccellenza in 2008–2009. This happened after they won the regional playoffs.
Return to Serie D
Fortis Trani finished second in Eccellenza Apulia in the 2009–10 season. They then won national playoffs and were promoted to Serie D. The next year, in Serie D, the club finished in 7th place. In the 2011–12 season in Serie D, Fortis Trani finished 11th. In the summer of 2013, the club could not join the 2013–14 Eccellenza league. After being moved down, the club was closed.
A Second New Beginning
Later in 2013, the club was started again. It took over the team called Terlizzi Calcio. This team had played in the 2012–13 Eccellenza Puglia league. The new club moved to Trani and became USC Trani. It now plays in the same league.
