The Club's Journey: From 1928 to Today
The football club from Trani has been around for a long time. It was first started in 1928 as U.S. Tranese. Later, in 1938, it was refounded as S.S. Trani. In 1948, its name changed again to Polisportiva Trani.
Playing in Serie B
One of the most exciting times for Polisportiva Trani was when they reached Serie B. This is a very important league in Italian football. They were promoted to Serie B on May 24, 1964. This happened after a 1–1 draw with Chieti.
During their time in Serie B, they had some amazing wins. They beat famous teams like Parma, Naples, and Palermo. They also won a big local game against Bari in the 1964–65 season. However, in the next year, they finished 20th and went back down to Serie C.
Challenges and Changes
After their time in Serie B, Polisportiva Trani continued to play. In 1987–88, they won their group in the Campionato Interregionale. This win helped them get promoted to Serie C2. They even won a special trophy that year, showing they were the best team among the group winners.
Polisportiva Trani played in Serie C2 for eight years. In 1991–92, they almost got promoted to an even higher league, Serie C1. But they just missed out. The club then faced some tough years. In 1995–96, they finished last and were moved down to a lower league. The next year, they were relegated again. In 1997–98, the club did not sign up for the Eccellenza Apulia championship. This meant the club stopped playing for a while.
A New Beginning: Fortis Trani
Two years later, in 1999, a new club was formed. It was called Fortis Trani. A group of nine business people helped start it. To avoid starting from a very low league, they bought the rights of another team. This team was called Libertas Barletta and played in Promozione Apulia.
The new club wanted to bring Trani back to higher leagues. They achieved two promotions and played two seasons in Serie D. However, they were later moved back down to Promozione. In 2008–2009, they won regional playoffs and returned to Eccellenza.
Back to Serie D
Fortis Trani did very well in the 2009–10 season. They finished second in Eccellenza Apulia. After winning national playoffs, they were promoted back to Serie D. In the 2010–11 Serie D season, they finished in 7th place. The next year, in 2011–12 Serie D, they finished 11th.
In the summer of 2013, the club faced problems again. They could not join the 2013–14 Eccellenza league. Because of this, the club was closed down.
Another Fresh Start
Later in 2013, the club started again. This time, it took over another team called Terlizzi Calcio. That team had played in Eccellenza Puglia in 2012–13. The club moved to Trani and became USC Trani. It now plays in the same league.
Team Colors and Home Ground
The main colors of the club are light blue and white. These colors are often seen on their jerseys.
The team plays its home games at the Stadio Comunale. This stadium is located in Trani, Italy. It can hold up to 10,700 fans.
