The AT&T Midtown Center I is a very tall building, also known as a skyscraper. It stands about 206 meters (677 feet) high and has 47 floors. You can find it in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. This building was finished in 1982. It serves as a main office for AT&T Southeast, which is a big company that provides phone and internet services. Before it was AT&T, the building was known as the BellSouth Center and the Southern Bell Center.

A Historic Save: The Fox Theatre

When the company, then called Southern Bell, first planned this building, they wanted to put a parking garage in a different spot. This spot was where the Fox Theatre stood. The Fox Theatre is a very old and special building in Atlanta.

Many people in the community did not want the Fox Theatre to be torn down. They remembered that another big theater, the Loew's Grand Theatre, had been destroyed by fire a few years earlier. So, people started protests, collected signatures, and raised money to save the Fox. Even the famous musician Liberace spoke up to help save the "Fabulous Fox."

Because of all this effort, a new plan was made. The parking garage was built in a different place, north of the main tower. This way, the historic Fox Theatre was saved!

Building Features and Fun Facts

The AT&T Midtown Center I is connected directly to the North Avenue MARTA Station. MARTA is Atlanta's public train system. This connection was built at the same time as the skyscraper.

In 2002, BellSouth added two more buildings next to the main tower. This created the BellSouth Midtown Center campus. The goal was to bring more offices closer to public transportation.

The main architects who designed this tall building were Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Rosser International, Inc. The company that built it was Beers Skanska, Inc.

Here's a fun fact: The building was used as a filming location for the 1993 science fiction movie RoboCop 3. In the film, it was shown as the headquarters for the fictional company O.C.P.

In 2019, the building went through a big update and was renamed "Tower Square."
