Plot Summary
The story is about an 11-year-old girl named Jessica Slocum (Juliet Sorci). Her mom passed away when Jessica was very young. Her dad, Jim (Doug Sheehan), works a lot and doesn't have much time for her. He's still sad about her mom.
Just before Christmas, Jessica wins a special wish from a wishing well. She wishes for a mom for Christmas! Her wish comes true thanks to Philomena (Doris Roberts). A department store mannequin named Amy Miller (Olivia Newton-John) comes to life to be Jessica's mom. But there's a catch: Amy can only be a mom until Christmas Eve.
To avoid confusing Jim, Amy pretends to be a nanny from Australia. She says she was hired to help with Jessica while Jim is at work. Amy and Jessica get along really well.
One day, Jessica briefly wants to take back her wish. She sees Amy become lifeless from her window. Scared, Jessica runs to Amy's room. Amy opens the door, and Jessica is relieved to see her okay.
The next day, Jessica visits Philomena at the department store. She wants to know if she can change the wish. Jessica wants Amy to stay forever because her dad has started to like Amy, and she doesn't want to lose another mom. Philomena explains that she can't easily change the wish. She shows Jessica that the store plans to replace all the mannequins with new ones that don't have faces. Philomena tells Jessica there's only one way to save Amy. They must act fast and work together.
Amy also faces another problem. A store detective thinks she took a missing Santa mannequin needed for Jessica's Christmas play. Amy's mannequin friends help her, especially a male mannequin dressed as a driver. He warns the detective to stay away from Amy.
Amy and the Santa mannequin help Jessica overcome her stage fright. Jessica performs wonderfully in her Christmas pageant! Jim even takes a picture of Jessica, which is his first photo of her since her mother died.
On Christmas Eve, Philomena is late for the special ritual needed to save Amy. Amy has to return to the store. Jessica asks her dad, Jim, to help save Amy. They rush to the store.
When they arrive, Amy has already turned back into a mannequin. Jessica hugs her. She begs her dad to grab Amy's hand, and he does. The ritual works, and Amy comes back to life! They head home. Amy's mannequin friends wish her good luck in her new life. The store detective wakes up after Philomena uses her magic feather duster. The movie ends with a happy Christmas picture of Jim, Amy, and Jessica.
