About Aaradhna
Her Early Life
Aaradhna grew up in New Zealand. Her family background is a mix of Samoan and Indian cultures. Her father, Jayanti Patel, is from India, and her mother, Sia'a Patel, is from Samoa.
Aaradhna is the oldest of five children. She loved singing from a very young age, around 11 years old. She would sing along with her mom to traditional Samoan songs. She also tried to copy songs from Bollywood movies that she watched with her dad.
When she was 11, Aaradhna started writing her own music. At 13, she entered her first talent show and made it to the finals! She joined her school choir at Porirua College. Later, she formed her own girl group called "Lovera" with four other friends.
Her Music Journey
Aaradhna's first album was called I Love You. It quickly became one of the top 20 albums in New Zealand. Some of her songs from this album were even used in movies! For example, her popular song "They Don't Know" with New Zealand rapper Savage was in the movie Sione's Wedding. Another song, "Faith," was in the movie It's a Free World.
In 2006, Aaradhna teamed up with Australian DJ Paul Mac for a dance song called Love Declaration. This song was on Paul Mac's album Panic Room.
Later Albums and Messages
In 2008, Aaradhna released her album Sweet Soul Music. This album was a tribute to classic soul songs. It even included her version of The Jackson 5's famous song "I Want You Back".
She continued to make new music. In 2012, she released the song "Wake Up." Her third album, Treble & Reverb, came out later that year.
Aaradhna's fourth album, Brown Girl, was released in 2016. This album was very special to her. It talked about her own experiences of being judged because of her background in New Zealand. The album became number one in New Zealand.
In November 2016, Aaradhna did something unique at the 2016 New Zealand Music Awards. She won an award for Best Hip Hop artist, but she felt it wasn't the right category for her music. She believed she was placed there because of her background, not her music style. She said, "You can't give a singer an award for Best Hip Hop artist." This showed how important it was to her that her music was understood for what it truly was.
