Abdallah ibn Buluggin (Arabic: عبد الله بن بلقين) was an important ruler from the Zirid family. His full name was ʿAbd Allāh ben Buluggīn ben Bādīs ben Ḥabūs ben Zīrī. He was born in 1056 and lived until after 1090. People also called him "Al-Muzaffar," which means "the conqueror." He was the grandson of Badis ben Habus and the last Zirid ruler of the Taifa of Granada from 1073 to 1090.
Becoming a Ruler
When his grandfather, Badis ibn Habus, passed away in 1073, the Zirid lands in a region called al-Andalus were split. Abdallah and his brother, Tamim, each received a part. Even though Abdallah was younger than Tamim, his grandfather had chosen him as the next leader back in 1064. His grandfather preferred him over his own son, Maksan, who was Abdallah's uncle. This decision made Abdallah the ruler of Granada.
Writing His Story
After he was no longer a ruler and was living in a place called Aghmat, Abdallah ibn Buluggin wrote down his memories. He also wrote about the history of the Zirid dynasty in Granada. His book is called Al-Tibyan an al-haditha al-kaina bi-dawlat Bani Ziri fi Gharnata. This long title means "An Exposition of the Downfall of the Zirid Dynasty in Granada." It tells us a lot about his life and the history of his family's rule.
