Abdelraouf Salem Nahar al-Rawabdeh (Arabic: عبد الرؤوف الروابدة) is a Jordanian politician who was born on February 18, 1939. He served as the 32nd Prime Minister of Jordan. He held this important role from March 4, 1999, until June 19, 2000. Mr. Rawabdeh is a well-known political leader from the city of Irbid in northern Jordan.

A Life in Politics
Serving as Mayor of Amman
Abdelraouf Al-Rawabdeh began his public service in 1983. He became the Mayor of Amman, which is the capital city of Jordan. He worked as mayor for six years, until 1989.
Joining the Jordanian Parliament
After his time as mayor, Mr. Al-Rawabdeh joined the Parliament of Jordan. He became a member of the 11th Parliament in 1989. He was also elected to the 12th Parliament in 1993 and the 13th Parliament in 1997. He served in Parliament until 2001.
Leading the Senate
On October 24, 2013, Mr. Al-Rawabdeh was chosen for another big role. He became the President of the Senate. The Senate is like an upper house of the parliament. He was the first President of the Senate after it was made larger. The Senate grew from 60 members to 75 members. He resigned from this position on October 25, 2015. After his resignation, Faisal al-Fayez took over as President of the Senate.
